Employees are the most valuable assets in any organization. It is therefore very vital that they are provided with the right kind of environment and opportunities to help them to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities, thus bring success to them and the business of the organization. An employee’s growth and career in an organization is closely linked to his performance. Employee training and development is one of the key aspects, which enable an employee to accomplish the above. It allows them to enhance their skills and capabilities, increase their productivity and also learn new skills within the organization. A poorly trained workforce, in the long run will lead to poor performance of the entire company.
Training should be viewed as an investment rather than as an expense as it impacts factors such as company competitiveness, overall growth & performance as well as revenues. Training programs should have measurable results for an employer to feel that it was not a waste of money. An organization should have a target and know what results to expect in return before sending employees for various training programs. It is also a good practice to assess your company’s training and development needs at least twice a year and allocate a budget for the same in advance.
Some of the known benefits of employee training are:
• Better attitude towards work and higher morale
• Reduced number of absentees, lower turnover and fewer complaints
• Proactive employees
• Increased involvement and contribution in their work and also towards the company
• Better customer service and public relations
Training is a valuable tool than can be used to develop the most valuable asset in the organization, which are its employees. If a company wants to grow, it has to train its employees on an on-going basis in order to get the work done. Especially in today’s economy, if a business does not learn, it will definitely lag behind in the corporate race. And a business can only learn if its employees learn. Once the employees are properly equipped with the necessary training and information required, they will be more confident and approach their work with a positive attitude and renewed enthusiasm thus improving their overall work performance and productivity.
A company should always communicate its expectations to the employees regarding their performance and how they should take all the needed steps to enhance their skills to stay on top of their respective fields. Then the company should ensure that providing the required resources and training for the same supports these efforts.
On-going learning is imperative to a business's continued success. An organization has to make this investment for its employees if it wants to be recognized as a professional organization that does quality work for customers. Investing in your employees strategically at the right time will help you reap the rewards for many years to come!
